Indiana Jones The Adventure Collection
Review by Lando da Pimp
You had to see it coming. A new Indiana Jones film means that a new box set of the first three films was going to be re-released. You would hope that any new set would be far superior then the last release. Lets see if it is:
The Story
I'm not going to bore you with the Indiana Jones story. You should know it by now, and are well aware that the new film is about to hit theaters. So onto the special features which is where we see how this set compares to the other.
Special Features
Each film contains a new introduction by Steven Speilberg & George Lucas. The Indy Trilogy, A Crystal Clear Appreciation features the cast & crew of the new movie discuss the original films. Another extra documents the reunion of the three leading ladies from Raiders, Temple, and Last Crusade. Indy's Friends & Enemies. - features Steven, George, & the writers as they discuss the characters creation, with a look at the new film. The last feature Creepy Crawlies. - discuss the snakes, bugs & rats in the film.
A new documenty on the making of the original films feature the melting face special effect from Raiders and a look at the shooting locations. The last few extras include storyboards, photo galleries, and a look at the new LEGO Indiana Jones video game.
Overall
I can't deny that this is a good box set. Even a barebones version of the films is better than most sets these days. I found the menus to be a bit strange, and the thin cases are not as nice as the brown box set. However, the films speak for themselves. They are great transfers of the film, and even though they are not in HD (cmon Paramount where are the Blu-Ray versions) they still looked great on my LCD.
Don't be fooled by the labeling on the box. It markets them as the first time available - Special Editions. There is nothing special about these versions. While this is a nice set of Indiana Jones movies, it is not worth purchasing again. As an owner of the brown box set from five years ago, I don't recommend this new set. Its just double dipping.
For people who don't own the films this is has a nice collection of bonus materials. You may want to wait. I would put money down that you can expect a new box set later in the year when the fourth film is released on DVD. I would put money on it.
