South Park Season Five
Review by Lando Da Pimp
The fifth season of South Park is by far my favorite of the series. This was the year where South Park became more and more controversial. Episodes Cripple Fight, Scott Tenormon Must Die, and the post 9-11 episode Osama Bin Laden Has Farty Pants took the show to the extreme.
Stand Out Episodes
Cripple Fight
The children join the local Boy Scouts lead by Big Gay Al. At the meeting we are introduced to the newest "handi-capable" kid, Jimmy. Jimmy who is also a stand up comic gains the attention of the kids making Timmy jealous. This leads to an all out CRIPPLE FIGHT. The parents however have more important concerns with banning Big Gay Al from leading the scout group because he is gay. When the replacement scoutmaster starts taking naked pictures of the scouts it is discovered that gay people molest kids just like homosexuals.
Scott Tenormon Must Die
If you learn anything from this episode it's that you shouldn't F**K with Cartman. When Cartman is tricked into buying Scott Tenormon's pubes, he attempts to get his money back. When Scott Tenormon refuses to give Cartman his money back, Cartman proves that he can make a kid eat his parents. Don't forget about Radiohead discovering how un-cool Scott Tenormon really is!
Osama Bin Laden Has Farty Pants
When President Bush asks that all children send a $1.00 to the kids in Afghanistan, the Afghani children thank the children by sending their goat that has a striking resemblance to Fleetwood Mac's Stevie Nicks. Stan, Kyle, Cartman, and Kenny attempt to return the goat when they get trapped into a plane heading towards Afganistan. As the children attempt to return the goat to its home, they are captured by Al Queda and brought before Osama Bin Laden. The end result is a great homage to the Bugs Bunny cartoons.
Butters' Very Own Episode
Butters' parents are celebrating their anniversary with a dinner at Benningans. Butters' dad goes in a search for a gift for his wife. Butters follows his dad to inform his mother on what his father purchased. What she discovers is that her husband frequents porn theaters and gay bathhouses. Distraught over this news Butters' mom attempts to kill Butters and herself. Unable to kill herself she blames a Puerto-Rican for the death of Butters. Butters survives and is determined to return home for a great family meal at Benningans.
The DVD
The DVD packaging is similar to the previous sets. Throughout the set are pictures from select episodes. It is a very nice design.
Extras
The DVD has no real extras with the exception of commentary by Trey Parker and Matt Stone.
Parting Thoughts
How can you not own this DVD set? It has my favorite episode Scott Tenormon Must Die. It also has great moments including Kyle's very Jewish cousin Kyle, the introduction of Towelie, and the death of Kenny (for real this time!).
