Jakks Pacific's Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith TV Games
Review by: Lando da Pimp
With all the excitement of the Episode III goodness in stores it's hard to decide what to buy. Let me make a suggestion for you, Jakks Pacific Revenge of the Sith TV Games. This is similar to previous TV Games systems, with the exception that this version has five original games that have never been released before. Each game portrays a portion of the film so be aware of spoilers!!!!!
Droid Invasion
Droid Invasion is a cross between Pong and Space Invaders. At the bottom of the screen you control Obi-Wan Kenobi. You must use your lightsaber to block and deflect the laser beams of the Droid army.
I found this to be the weakest of the games as well as the hardest. I didn't get very far with the game but I also sucked at it as I usually do, so I gave up.
Coruscant Attack
If you loved the Atari game Asteroids then you will love this game. You control Obi-Wan's Jedi starfighter in a space battle with enemy droid fighters and battleships to stop the attack on Coruscant.
The game Asteroids was one of my favorite games and this brought back great memories of playing the game. Just like Asteroids, the ship is very touchy and you can easily lose control of the shipbut that was what made the game great.
Grievous Onslaught
This was my favorite game on the system. You must find Chancellor Palpatine on General Grievous' flagship while you proceed through different rooms, battling your way through battle droids.
This is the hardest of the games. Once you're hit, you're dead and start all over. As you enter a room you must destroy the battle droids and super battle droids to continue to the next room. I haven't made it to General Grievous or Palpatine yet but it's a lot of fun.
Gunship Battle
You control a gunship that not only deploys and picks up troops on the ground but you must protect them from the enemy cannons and ships. During game play you are constantly given orders to protect the base or troops are under attack with an arrow pointing you in the direction of the problem.
I enjoyed this game a lot but it drives you nuts because every time you save the troops or the base, another area is under attack. I am not sure if there is any real conclusion.
Utapau Chase
Using Obi-Wan on Boga, a giant lizard-like creature, you must chase General Grievous on his fleeing Wheel Bike on the planet Utapau. As you chase Grievous you must dodge laser blasts and jump over caverns.
If you remember the game Spy Hunter then you will see similarities with this game. It's fun but I got bored with it very fast. I am also a little worried that this scene from the film will be really odd looking. Whenever Lucas has characters ride computer generated animals it doesn't look very good. Hopefully I will be wrong.
The initial wave of ROTS TV Games will be contained in a Darth Vader controller but future controllers will be of R2-D2 and General Grievous. To play the games you just plug the controller into audio / video ports of a TV or VCR. The TV Games systems are available now and sell for $19.99.
I really enjoyed playing the ROTS games. They have a real Atari game feel with the graphics that are similar to the original Nintendo. What is really great is that the games are brand new so they have never been played before. Be warned I found most of the games pretty difficult but with constant game play this could be resolved.
