Art Asylum/ Diamond Select Toy's Battlestar Galactica minimates and Caprica Six action figure
by Mr. Stinkhead
Two years ago at Toy Fair we got our first glimpse at BattleStar Galactica Minimates, and lucky for BSG fans, they're still coming strong.
DST has done well with releasing minimates in two packs (a few other themes, like the Back to the Future minimates sometimes come in four packs). Today we're looking at Lee & Kara, D'Anna & Sharon, and Helo & Tyrol (in orange). Each has the expected 14 points of articulation, and comes with an accessory (except for Tyrol). The picture frames are a nice touch, but my favorite little gag in the old Minimate C3 Batcave was that the portrait of Mr and Mrs. Wayne (Bruce's ill-fated parents) was done in minimate style... so I think it would have been funny to provide these pics in minimate style as well. However, they're so tiny, they might not translate.
The sculpted detail on such a small scale works wonderfully, and the facial illustration is just enough. Any more detail would have been over the top, and any less, these would have been LEGO people.
Caprica Six This is actually one of the best sculpted female action figures I've ever put my hands on (ewwww). The articulation is top notch, but it doesn't interfere too badly with the sculpt. You'll find you can get all kinds of wonderful poses, and her body looks (mostly) natural when standing. I also have to mention that she balanced pretty easily without too much manipulation.
I do have to mention that it's fairly easy to make her look like a zombie by twisting her thigh and raising her arms... mmmmmmmmmm brains. Is that going to be a new line of chase variants? BSG Zombies? You heard it here first.
We're heading to Toy Fair next month, so stay tuned to see more favorite characters come home in toy form.
